Health Center Foundation Donates Funding for Surgical OB/GYN Device
(Medford) Through funding provided by donations, the Memorial Health Center Foundation purchased a Gynecare ThermaChoice device used to perform an OB/GYN procedure called an endometrial ablation. An endometrial ablation is a procedure performed to resolve excessive menstrual bleeding, or menorrhagia. Menorrhagia is a debilitating condition that affects about 22 percent of all menstruating women.“It is the mission of the Memorial Health Center Foundation to ensure that quality medical care is always available and convenient to the people of this area,” said Dave Thomas, Memorial Health Center Foundation Chairperson. “We do this by purchasing advanced medical technology that benefits Memorial Health Center patients.“Hysterectomy, the second most frequently performed surgical procedure in the United States, is the most common surgical treatment for menorrhagia. Although hysterectomy provides a cure for menorrhagia, numerous physical and psychological effects often accompany it. An endometrial ablation simply uses heat to destroy the lining of the uterus, unlike a hysterectomy, which takes out the entire uterus.According to Tracy Fuchs, Surgical Services Director at Memorial Health Center, the Memorial Health Center Foundation has made it possible for this minimally invasive, 8-minute procedure to be performed by Memorial Health Center surgeon Dr. Erik Branstetter. For more information about this procedure, call 748-8100, ext. 7288.As a 501©3 nonprofit organization, donations to the Memorial Health Center Foundation are tax deductible.
